Week 13 Question

If I could choose an alternative title for my book it would be “Our journey to being the greatest heroes”. I would choose this title because throughout the story it talks about all the heroes except that Deku is the main character. Although Deku is the main character, you can see the changes in other heroes and not just him. This would make way to demonstrate all the greatness others can also achieve and not limit it to just one person. Deku is cool and all but there is also others such as Kirishima, Bakugo, Todoroki, etc, that show promising skills.

Week 12 Question

The most important object in my story would be All Might’s strand of hair. This object is important because it marks the beginning of Deku’s journey since he had to eat it to acquire All Might’s powers.  All Might’s secret is that he can pass down his powers through his DNA, that’s why Deku had to eat All Might’s hair.

Week 11 Question

1) If I was to chose a character from my story it would be Kirishima. Kirishima is a team worker and he wouldn’t leave anyone behind. He is the one to trust when his friends are in trouble. For example, when Bakugo got kidnapped, he wasted no time in going after him. Kirishima’s spirit and passion to be a hero adds to the pros of joining forces with him. That’s why I would chose Kirishima to be on my team.

Week 10 Question

Chapter 2 page 11 is very important because it is where All Might offers to pass down his powers to Deku and he accepts the offer. This is the beginning of Deku's journey of becoming the greatest hero, as well as making All Might's power his own.

Week 9 Questions

1) Why does Horikoshi make the story mainly about Midoriya, but slowly starts getting a bit into depth about the other characters?
I feel like this was a very effective way to incorporate and show how everyone else in the story affects each other, sort of like a chain reaction. Technically this is Midoriya’s story and how he became the greatest hero, but he wouldn’t have been able to reach that point if it wasn’t for the people that were part of his life before and after he got accepted to UA.

2) Why is Bakugo usually mean to Midoriya, and why does it gradually begin to fade away?
Midoriya and Bakugo have known each other for quite the time, they are childhood friends who basically grew up together. As Bakugo got praised for his quirk, he grew this sort of pride which made him see himself above everyone else. Even in that way Midoriya admired him so much. But Bakugo saw it as Midoriya looking down on him whenever he offered him help. When Modoriya got his powers, Bakugo noticed and he questioned it, he realized that he isn’t as weak as he used to be when they were children. All of this ends up leading up to their fight in one of the chapters. The fight where Bakugo revealed his true feelings and he hated the fact that he was the end of All Might, since All Might ran out of time and his powers, so he was no longer the number 1 hero.

3) Why is every character an important part in the story?
Every character is an important asset to the story because each one of them admires something another character has, in terms of hopes, dreams, and goals. For example, everyone usually gets inspiration from Midoriya and Bakugo because they both want to be better than each other and the best heroes there is. Whenever they compete it fires up all the other students because they are inspired by how much they’re willing to train and do to become the best heroes. Whenever the attacks happened, they’d be the ones to jump into action, which then encouraged the others to have faith in themselves and also decide to take action. Even though in the beginning Midoriya wasn’t comfortable with his new quirk, he did not hesitate to take part in the action, even if he wasn’t sure about what the outcome would be.

Week 8 Questions

1) I think I did pretty good for the first 9 weeks since I actually kept up with the reading. I don’t think I’lil change much since I actually did what I had to do the first 9 weeks, so I’m going to keep it that way.

2) There is way too many events that happened throughout the whole story, but to keep it simple I will say that there is a league of villains and their goal is to get rid of heroes. But alongside with that, the story of how Midoriya became the greatest hero is also unfolding. One of out of all the many things that happened that was the most important in my opinion was All Might’s end. His time ran out and he is no longer #1 Hero due to his conditions, which is what starts to bring attention to villains since they think they can do whatever they want just because he is weak.  Most of the events that took place where mostly trainings as well as encounters with actual villains which really helped give a boost to everyone’s character development.

Week 7 Questions

I feel like the 4 categories my manga would fall under would be a clumsy lead character, action, adventure, and finding yourself and a purpose. I chose these 4 because it accurately describes all the characteristics that are occurring in the story. For example, Deku was new to having a quirk, therefore he didn’t really know how to control it in a way. But before that quirk he felt as if he didn’t have a purpose because everyone else around him had a quirk. He felt as if he was useless since half of the society was made up of kids with powers. Action and adventure tie in with all the events of the hero world that he is living in. Deku is really clumsy, he isn’t really one to know how to react in certain situations without being weird and I think that’s pretty cool cause maybe more than half of us can relate.

Week 5 Questions

1) What inspired Kohei Horikoshi to write My Hero Academia was a very popular known anime called Naruto. Of course everyone has heard about it or at least knows a little about it, it is one of the classics just like One Piece and Dragon ball Z. Horikoshi fell into a depression for a couple years and thought about quitting manga, but 2014 came around and My Hero Academia earned him his first success. He was also inspired by Spider-man because he was a teenage hero, just like all the UA kids.

2) He did have to do research to be inspired enough to come up with something. Like I said in my first response, he was inspired by different animes as well as American comics/heroes. He had to look into his favorite mangas/animes to see what captivated his attention, so he could also incorporate it into his story. He put time and thought into writing this manga and since it's still on-going, he is pouring his heart into it.

3) As of now I don't think I have any questions about the time period or context of the story. Right now everything is pretty clear because it's starting a whole "new story" since the provisional exams are over.

Week 4 question

1) If I were to create an award for my book, it would be the best character developments award. The reason to why I would make this an award is because since the beginning of the story, the characters have grown and matured in ways that makes the readers proud. For example, Bakugo has had one of the biggest character developments in the story so far. He use to bully Midoriya and could not accept the fact that he became strong, thanks to his mentor, All Might. So far in the story, Bakugo has realized that Midoriya got his quirk from All Might, and now he begins to question Midoriya because he wants to know how he got ahead of the game. Up to the chapter I'm at, Bakugo decides to challenge Midoriya to a fight, even tho Midoriya did not want to fight him. Later he realized the burden Bakugo was carrying within himself and so he decided to fight him because he's the only one who can help him and understand him. This shows major character development because Bakugo isn't known for being emotional at all. Just like Bakugo, other characters such as, Todoroki, Aoyama, Iida, etc, have all branched out and found the fire to spark their passion for becoming a hero.

Week 3 Questions

1) This manga has made me cheer for all the current heroes that want to become pro heroes. During the provisional license exams, everyone showed some type of character development and their motivation to become a pro hero became even stronger. I get a lot of excitement from just reading because you never know what's going to happen since there is so much rivalry going on between the kid heroes.

2)  The way this book is connected to my life is because it is a story about a kid who had no quirk (that's what the superpower they are born with is called), yet he met someone who turned his life around and is now telling us how he became the greatest hero ever. The one thing I relate the most with in this manga is the feeling of loneliness, as well as later on finally finding your purpose.

3) So far the manga seems pretty believable, but the one thing that startled me was that Bakugo acknowledged how strong Midoriya has become. This was really surprising because usually Bakugo would get mad at anything Midoriya did cause he felt as if he was looking down on him. This comes to show that Bakugo as a character is maturing and developing, which will make the story very interesting.

1) There are many villains in the manga I am reading, but the first one that surfaced was Hero Killer: Stain. Stain was a villain who hated most heroes because he felt that most heroes started to lack the charisma to be a hero. He also felt that half of the heroes aren't working for the people, that they are all doing it for the money and popularity aspect. The only hero Stain admires is All Might. All Might is the number one hero in this story, he is full of charisma and truly does it for the people. What motivated Stain the most was to cleanse society of false heroes. His strong ideals and beliefs led him to become the hero killer. He doesn't just kill people to kill, he needs to have a reason to do so.

2) If the story was re-written from Stain's point of view, his actions would seem a bit more justifiable. The narrative would change because he would be giving us insight as to why he is killing off heroes and how he came to those beliefs. Although his beliefs aren't necessarily wrong, the way he is going about it are. In a way, Stain is already somewhat sympathetic. He doesn't kill off heroes that give off the genuine hero spirit. For example, when Iida sought revenge for his brother, he was doing it for a selfish cause and Stain did not like that. But once, Midoriya shows up and demonstrates that he cares about his friend getting out alive rather than killing the hero, in the end Stain spares Midoriya and ends up getting imprisoned.

3) I don't think this manga will end soon, but I do believe since Stain is imprisoned there could be a chance of the author making a new story of him escaping and trying to continue his agenda. Maybe he will even seek revenge on the villain that betrayed him by not working together how he had agreed to do so.

Friday, August 24, 2018

1) The manga I am reading is My Hero Academia by Horikoshi Kouhei, and I chose to read this manga because I watched the anime this summer and it was actually really good. After I got caught up to the third season's recent episode I decided to start reading it because it feels like forever having to wait for the next episode to come out. And in some mangas it actually tells you some things more in detail than in the anime.

2) A memorable quotation I have read so far is "Those around them may not have noticed, but in class A, there are two certain individuals who are having a great effect on all the others". With this quote, Aizawa Shouta, Class 1-A's teacher, points out the fact that Midoriya (the main character of the show) and Bakugo ( Midoriya's childhood friend) have spread their zeal to the rest of the class, meaning that both of them always manage to bring the class together, but they aren't the type to bring attention to themselves either. This brings a lot of importance to the text because it shows the character development between everybody and not just one character and how that all comes into play throughout the manga and show.

3) If I was the author of this book I honestly don't think I would do anything differently. I feel like the story right now is being well-written and thought out, except a couple of parts like not solving some of the previous cases in the past chapters, unless the author plans on introducing the case again later in the story.

Last year I barely read anything if I'm being honest. I would occasionally read when I had to for my English class, but even looking back at it I barely read anything on my part.

One thing I enjoy about reading is being able to see in your head what you read. I like when you find a book that captivates your attention. Certain books are more enjoyable to read when you enjoy the genre you chose.

One thing I hate about reading is that when you read something you don't want to or like, you usually end up hating every minute of the reading. Some books make you feel like you're going to fall asleep in the middle of them, but it really just depends on your choice and preference.
